Re: Adoption Rules in UK
The child and adopters are then matched by the agency. They will meet and eventually the child will live with the adopters. If everyone is happy child, adopters and social workers - then an adoption hearing is held. The judge decides whether the adoption order should be made or not. If approved, the adoptive parents become the child's parents for the rest of its life.
The court will decide whether the child has contact with their birth parents, siblings or anyone else who has the interest of the child at heart. Once again, this is done according to the needs of the child.
The Act allows adopted children to obtain a copy of their birth certificate from the adoption agency when they reach the age of 18, but importantly also allows the birth parents to have information about the young adult without identifying them.
